Syrah 2023

$19.95

WINEMAKER’S NOTES

Plants came out of dormancy early in spring, leading to vines getting a jump start on the season. There was an optimism in late-August that the crop would match, if not exceed, that of the previous year. But a warm and wet
September caused a delay in grapes maturing and shortened an already challenging harvest. Half of the cuvée was fermented and aged in stainless steel only, showcasing true varietal characteristics; the other half was aged
for 18 months in French and American oak to add complexity and aromas and flavours of vanilla and soft tannins.

TASTING NOTES

While Syrah and Shiraz are the same grape variety, the names reflect different regional styles: Syrah is typically more elegant, peppery, and earthy usually produced in cooler climates like Ontario, while Shiraz is
bolder, fruit-forward, and jammy from warmer regions. This wine is a classic cool climate style Syrah - with notes of walnut, parsley, black pepper and an earthy characteristic. A natural match with rosemary, thyme, and oregano
that bring out the earthy, savoury notes in the wine. Think Skirt steak with Chimichurri sauce. Also excellent with peppercorn crusted tuna, and one of the few red wines, that will pair well with olives!
